About the Doctors 

Dr. Stephen R. Franklin, MD

Dr. Steve Franklin is an Oak Ridge native who joined the practice in 1988 and Center for Sight was formed. His undergraduate degree is from UT Knoxville and M.D. from UT Memphis. Dr. Franklin also did his ophthalmology residency at UT Memphis where he was trained as a comprehensive ophthalmologist. He specializes in cataract surgery and laser surgery as well as general ophthalmology to treat and manage countless eye diseases and conditions. His office hours are spent in a dimly lit office, so after work he enjoys outdoor activities like biking, hiking, boating, and gardening.

Dr. Katherine H. Laney, OD

Dr. Katherine Laney is originally from Memphis, Tennessee. She received her Bachelor's degree in Biology from Mississippi College in 1995. She then earned her Doctorate of Optometry degree in 1999 from Southern College of Optometry in Memphis where she graduated Magna Cum Laude. Named Tennessee's Young Optometrist of the year in 2005, Dr. Laney has continued to stay active in her profession. She is currently a member of the East Tennessee Optometric Society, Tennessee Association of Optometric Physicians, and American Optometric Association. She and her husband are also active in Knoxville's homeschool community. In her spare time she enjoys homeschooling her children, attending her book club, and enjoying the many outdoor activities available in East Tennessee. Dr. Laney enjoys all aspects of primary eye care and sees patients from children to adults.

Our opticians have over 50 years of combined service in the optical industry. We are confident that they can fulfill virtually all eyewear needs ranging from the simplest single vision lenses, to industry specific eye wear such as lead glass lenses and custom chemistrie clip sunglasses.
